The Army xTech Program

Office of Army Prize Competitions (xTech) and Army SBIR

The U.S. Army xTech Program, sponsored by the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics and Technology (ASA(ALT)), is the driving force in exploring innovative technologies from non-traditional entities across the globe, to grow the Army and Department of Defense ecosystems – supporting Soldiers by solving critical mission challenges.

xTech provides cash prizes, potential opportunities to submit for follow-on contract awards, comprehensive feedback from Army experts, direct exposure to Army and commercial stakeholders, and networking, education, and mentorship opportunities. To date, the program has launched more than 37 competitions, awarded over $22.6 million in prize money, and led to over $190 million in contracts and agreements for non-defense businesses and entities to form long-standing partnerships with the Army.

The Army is the only service maximizing the prize authority statute, 10 U.S.C. § 4025, by offering non-dilutive funding through xTech cash prizes and follow-on contract awards, including Army SBIR awards. This incentivizes the private sector with a pathway for vendors to continue their work with the Army and drive toward transition. The Army SBIR Program

The Army SBIR Program identifies top emerging commercial technologies that meet critical Army priorities, modernizing our world-class Army and transition life-saving solutions into the hands of Soldiers.

In addition to non-dilutive R&D capital contracts ranging from $250,000-$15 million, the program provides a valuable opportunity for U.S. small businesses to engage with technical, acquisition and operational subject matter experts. These experts offer insight into technology needs while guiding them through the Army research and development ecosystem.

Small businesses collaborate with technical points of contact who serve as a resource as they mature their technologies for transition into Army acquisition programs. Program benefits include flexibility and timeliness, maximizing initial cash flow for small businesses and minimizing the time to contract.

The Army SBIR Program releases contract opportunities on a rolling basis to respond to the Army’s current and anticipated technology needs. For a list of open topics and eligibility information, visit www.armysbir.army.mil.
