Shift5 GPS Integrity Module
From Ukraine to the Middle East, militaries and militant groups are manipulating the electromagnetic spectrum to disable their adversaries and gain asymmetric battlefield advantage. Electronic warfare and its rapid evolution has brought with it a rise in GPS spoofing attacks, impacting both military and civilian targets.
In response, Shift5 launched the Shift5 GPS Integrity Module, the first cross-platform solution to automate GPS spoofing defense through onboard data observability. The GPS Integrity Module provides sophisticated, multi-faceted detection for GPS spoofing attempts, alerting operators to anomalies as they occur. It integrates seamlessly with existing platforms and onboard hardware across military aircraft, naval vessels, ground vehicles, and other critical systems. The Module is hardware, bus, and protocol agnostic, performing passive, full-take data capture from any onboard source – every frame, every bus, every protocol.
It features physics-based spoofing detection to assess the physical plausibility of positional changes and advanced detection capabilities for analyzing enriched data to identify subtle, sophisticated spoofing attempts, including those that might evade traditional detection techniques. It can be customized to deliver alerts in-cockpit, allowing operators to rapidly and confidently trigger decision-making processes and initiate Standard Operating Procedures, including deactivating GPS to prevent it from corrupting other interconnected navigation systems.
Over a three-month period, Shift5’s GPS Integrity Module identified 24 instances of degraded GPS performance. The Module enhances the reliability of defense navigation systems and the operational safety of weapon systems and military vehicles, supporting force readiness, resilience, and reliability.
